Police Officer Training
If you're interested in becoming a cop, you need to decide what level of law enforcement careers you are interested in to know what kind o law enforcement courses you should be taking. You can apply to become a cop straight out of high school with a diploma, as long as you are over 18, have no criminal record, are drug free and a US citizen.

You can apply directly through local police offices for openings, and if accepted, they will then put you through a series of physical and mental exams and then 12-14 months of police academy. There you will study things like civil rights, state laws, accident investigations, traffic control, self defense and using weapons. If you want to work at a federal level, you will need a college degree to get in.
FBI Training
To work as an FBI agent, you will need a higher level of education, in the form of a bachelors degree or master's degree in criminal justice. On top of this, you will need 2-3 years of relevant work experience before you are eligible to apply for training. There are different areas of the FBI you can work for, so this experience can be in fields like law, computer science, engineering, accounting or the military.
You can then apply for a position and must undergo many tests, but if you pass and are accepted, you will then be sent to Quantico to the FBI headquarters where you will have 17 weeks of training at the FBI academy. Your training will prepare you with many skills, like firearm usage, survival skills and technological ability.
Homeland Security
There are associate's, bachelor's and master's degrees in homeland security to give you the training needed to apply to this government agency. Your course material will include training in hazardous materials, anti-terrorism, disaster and incident management, securing facilities and all the laws necessary. This training can prepare you for a career in customs and immigration, border patrol, the coast guard or even the secret service.
To be considered for the law enforcement career of your dreams, you need to get the right information on the proper training needed.
